All Smiles — Antique Wallace Nutting Hand-Colored Photograph (c. 1918–1925)

A woman in a Colonial interior. A fireplace. A quiet afternoon that someone thought worth keeping.

This is an original hand-colored photograph by Wallace Nutting (1861–1941), American minister-turned-photographer whose tinted interior scenes became some of the most beloved domestic art of the early 20th century. Titled "All Smiles," this piece was produced during Nutting's Later Era — circa 1918 to 1925 — when demand for his work was at its peak.

The title and signature were applied in smooth fountain pen ink by one of Nutting's trained studio colorists, in the precise, elegant script characteristic of his expanded post-1918 team. The warm color inside the hearth remains beautiful. The cream matting shows foxing — subtle brown spotting caused by a century of moisture and acid in the original backing boards. It's not damage. It's evidence.

The original wire brads are still intact inside the frame — the same thin, oxidized fasteners used by the Nutting studio in the 1920s.

This is a 100-year-old piece of American domestic art, hand-colored by someone who cared, framed the same way it left the studio, and somehow still here.
