The Synchro is the one wearing her whole rig — bakelite pseudo-TLR body, big bright viewing lens up top, and the original Brownie Flasholder still cabled to her side, silver dish and all. When she launched in 1941, that dish was the whole point: for the first time, ordinary families could take pictures indoors, at night — birthday cakes, Christmas mornings, the moments that used to be too dark to keep. One foil bulb per photograph, and you chose your moments accordingly.
The Art Deco details are what set her apart on a shelf — ribbed chrome corners, angled top, a viewfinder you look down into like a jeweler. Camera and flash have stayed together for eighty years, which is rarer than either piece alone; the dishes almost always wandered off.
