The Rings started life as the humblest thing in the garden — little terracotta saucers, made to sit under nursery pots and catch the water. Somebody saw what they really were: whitewashed and rubbed back so the warm clay shows at the rims, tied with twine, they're the best coasters a table can have. Unglazed terracotta drinks the condensation right off a cold glass — no sticking, no rings on the wood, just the quiet competence of clay doing what clay does.
