The Acorns — Mid-Century Japanese Shaker Pair

The Acorns are the oldest piece on the fall shaker shelf — a Japanese pair from the late sixties, textured brown caps over ribbed bodies, hand-painted oak leaves in yellow and green, and their original cork stoppers still in their bases, which after sixty years is its own small miracle. The registered design stamp on the bottom means somebody was proud enough of this mold to protect it.

They're from the same collection as our October Pair — the estate sale of the shaker collector whose pieces 93,000 people watched us unpack this summer. Her oldest fall set, as far as we can tell.
